The past couple of weeks have been great for the BCB. Here are some highlights (in no particular order):
They've got some great opening exposure and there's more to come. Last Saturday, the BCB opened for Mickey & the Motorcars, Cory Morrow, and Randy Rogers. Not a bad lineup, if you ask me. But since you didn't ask, i'm telling you. It has great potential. If nothing else, it introduced fans of those bands to the BCB and perhaps struck a chord in there music listening little heads of theirs. This Friday, the Bart Crow Experience will be opening for the Eli Young Band which is hotter than a pistol. Opening gigs lead to headling gigs. Plain and simple. Smooth as molasses.
Bart's been able to book a couple of gigs in the Houston area, which in the past have been hard to come by. One is Antone's in Beaumont, which has hosted some of the best in music in lots of genres. Another is Firehouse Saloon in Houston, which the BCB once played at back in the day. It's only a matter of time sports fans before your beloved BCB is all over the place... I can feel it!!
Some "what doings" of the week:
1. Sour Lake, Texas - Pros are that they had a Dairy Queen, Cons: everything else. We felt strange being there, and I imagine i won't be offending anyone from there because I'm sure there is no internet for miles around. (sorry to those who do read this :) )
2. Beaumont Suburbs - there was this one guy at a convenience store who could've been straight out of Deliverance. I'm talking banjo pickin', tobaccy chewin', tree whittlin', back woods livin', individual... Listen to this little conversation:
Bubba: Is that a new cup? Juliette: yes. Bubba: Are you from around here? Juliette: no Bubba: Well ya shore don't look like one of them local girls. Juliette: ..... Bubba: let me play a little banjo for ya... (okay, i made that part up)
3. Convenience store in Centerville, TX - About a thousand people had to go in and use the bathroom, get a drink, and/or get some grub at the same exact second. Seriously. seriously.
That's about it... when I get out of the haze that was this weekend, I might add to this little blog. Then again, maybe not.
A little quote:
"The true measure of a man is how he treats someone he has absolutely no use for." - some wise man (not the ones that visited Jesus, but another one.)
